Happy Birthday Eric!

Today is Eric's first birthday. We can't believe it's been a year. Just like last year, we had a huge snowstorm on the 16th. Everything outside is covered in white today. We love the snow!

We spent the morning getting ready for Eric's party. We had our favorite Swedish buttermilk pancakes made into a cake that I could let Eric eat without feeling guilty. It was layered with cream cheese whipped cream "frosting" and blueberries and yogurt. Yum! We added some sausage and had a great lunch!

Sam was so excited about blowing out the candle. I was pretty sure that Eric wouldn't figure out how to blow it out so I told Sam that he could give Eric a chance and then he could do it. We lit the candle, Eric stared at it for about three seconds, and then he took his little fingers and pinched out the flame.

Our friends Aimee Luke & Audrey, Anna Nathan & Fiona, and Anna Erin Molly & Emmalyn, (9 kids ages 5 & under) came over and we all let the kids run around the house like mad men while we chatted. Thanks, guys, for coming and for making it such a fun time!

Mom! What’s happening to our candles???

This morning I was getting ready to take Sam to preschool. We had a new Christmas cookie candle burning to give a festive ambiance to our house. I had to look up a phone number, was ruffling some papers, and then called my friend. As I hung up the phone, Sam said, "Mom! What's happening to our candles???" I turned around and found my "file pile" ablaze. Something had gotten too close to the candles and we had a fire about 2 feet tall burning in our dining room. Luckily I had a kitchen fire extinguisher that didn't require anything more than point and spray, because that's all that I think I could have managed at that point. That's the end of candles at our house for a long time.

I quit my full time job about three months ago, and have been working a few days here and there since then, and just staying home with my boys. I thought I'd have more time to blog after I quit. Ha!! As you can tell from the pictures above, I still outsource what I can. (Just kidding, but I thought they were cute pictures and wanted to try the new picture and blog features in MS Word 2007.) Has anyone else made the transition? What did you think about working vs. staying at home?
